A travel eSIM

The word eSIM in Saudi Arabia and Egypt gets mixed with ordering a SIM from the local phone company, moving a number, or replacing a lost line. This page does not explain an STC, Mobily, Zain, or Vodafone SIM. It is about a digital travel SIM you buy for data in another country.

Airalo describes an eSIM as an embedded digital SIM, like a plastic SIM for joining a network but without inserting a card. Jetpac presents its product as an international travel eSIM.

Before you buy a travel eSIM

1

Separate this from a carrier SIM

If you want a new Saudi or Egyptian number, or to move your number, the phone company’s site is the place, not this page. A travel eSIM does not replace the line that receives your bank texts unless you turn that line off yourself, which we would not do before a trip.

2

Check the phone the way Airalo describes

On the review day Airalo required a device that supports eSIM, is not network-locked, and is not jailbroken on iPhone or rooted on Android. Some regional models differ. Their list changes, so we do not copy device names and we link the list instead. On iPhone look for Add eSIM in settings. On Samsung look in SIM manager.

3

Install while you still have Wi-Fi

Airalo’s iPhone steps ask for a stable connection and prefer Wi-Fi. The published methods are direct from the app when it is offered, a QR code, or manual entry. The iPhone path they published: Settings, Cellular or Mobile Data, Add eSIM, then the code or manual entry.

4

Read what Jetpac says it does not include

On the review day Jetpac’s site said traditional SMS is not supported, voice is a separate pack bought in the app, and data works in apps such as WhatsApp. They also require an unlocked phone that supports eSIM. Their site title refers to more than 200 destinations. The pack and the price change, so we do not freeze a figure.

Whether to buy now

Buy a travel eSIM if

  • Your phone is on the support list or its settings offer Add eSIM
  • The phone is not network-locked
  • You will install on Wi-Fi before the trip and keep your line for verification codes

Do not buy it if

  • You want a replacement for a lost local SIM
  • The phone is locked or has no eSIM
  • You need traditional SMS on a Jetpac eSIM

Finish the comparison on the provider’s site

Khasmak does not book for you. Open the site, enter the same dates, and read the total before you pay.

Questions travelers ask

Does “eSIM” in Saudi Arabia mean Airalo?

Usually no. A lot of the search is for mobile carriers. This page is only about travel.

How do I know my phone accepts an eSIM?

From the phone’s settings and from Airalo’s list. We do not copy the list because it changes, and their write-up says some regional models are excluded.

Can I call and send SMS?

Airalo sells data packages you can top up when they run out. Jetpac wrote that traditional SMS is not supported, that voice is a separate pack, and that apps such as WhatsApp use the data.

When do I install it?

On stable Wi-Fi before you need it, which is what the install guide asks. Do not wait until the airport connection drops if you can avoid it.
