Air Arabia: booking, fare types and the fees to know before you pay
The cheapest price you see when booking Air Arabia is usually the Basic fare, which has no checked bag and no cash refund if you cancel. Before you hit book, this comparison saves you an airport surprise.
Hand baggage: 7 kg plus 3 kg
All three fares allow a cabin bag up to 7 kg and 55 x 40 x 20 cm, plus a personal item up to 3 kg and 25 x 33 x 20 cm, such as a laptop bag or handbag. Duty-free purchases count toward the same total, so the overall cap is 10 kg.
If your bag is over the limit at the gate, Air Arabia says a fee of AED 100 per piece may apply. Weighing it at home with a luggage scale is far cheaper. Travellers with an infant under two may bring one extra small bag up to 3 kg for baby essentials.
Checked bags: the real difference
On flights to and from the UAE, Basic includes no checked baggage; you buy it separately. Value includes 20 or 30 kg and Ultimate 30 or 40 kg, depending on route. Cairo flights are the exception: even Basic includes 20 or 30 kg there.
The maths is simple: if you would add a bag to Basic, compare that price with the step up to Value, which also gives a free seat from row 8, a sandwich and a free change.
Changes and cancellations
Basic is the strictest: one change up to 24 hours before departure with a minimum AED 200 charge, and no cash refund at all; if you cancel, the money stays as credit for a future flight within a year of payment, for the same passenger only.
Value allows one free change (fare difference applies) up to 24 hours before departure, and cancellation for AED 100 as credit or AED 300 back to your card. Ultimate is the most flexible: two changes up to 8 hours before the flight, free cancellation as credit or AED 200 for cash.
A no-show forfeits the ticket; only government taxes can be claimed.
Which fare suits you
A short trip with a backpack and fixed dates: Basic is fine. Family travel with suitcases or plans that may shift: Value is usually best value. A work trip that may move at the last minute: Ultimate, because the change window is 8 hours instead of 24.
Remember every fee is per passenger, per sector; a family of four cancelling a return trip on Value pays the cancellation fee eight times.
